Our Key Achievements
- 137 families empowered through kitchen gardening, strengthening household food production and nutrition.
- 103 caregivers and community members provided with agricultural inputs, including seeds and fertilizers, reaching 1,000 individuals.
- 50 farmers and 305 community members trained in climate-smart agriculture, poultry farming, and pig farming, supporting livelihood development among 210 households.
- 145 vulnerable children supported with learning materials.
- 120 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) supported with food, psychosocial support, and care.
- Menstrual Hygiene Management: Distributed sanitary pads to girls in schools, including Our Lady of Mercy and Testimony Primary School, to support menstrual health, dignity, and school participation.
- Youth Voice Empowerment Project – “From Seed to Success”: Ongoing practical training equipping young people with skills in organic farming, spiral vertical, power gardening, climate-smart agriculture, agribusiness, and value addition.
- Community advocacy and civic engagement: Reached 243 community members through civic education and advocacy on child rights, GBV prevention, gender equality, and community participation in governance.
- Human trafficking and modern slavery awareness: Conducted community awareness activities and radio talk shows, including engagements through Bulala FM and Western Nyota FM, to promote prevention, protection, and awareness.
- Survivor support and livelihood linkages: Supported survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery with agricultural skills, value-addition training, and linkages to legitimate employment and livelihood opportunities.
CHALLENGES
As an organization dedicated to the development and protection of vulnerable children and families, RADP faces several challenges that impact our ability to scale and sustain our programs. While we rely entirely on the support of well-wishers. and community partners, these challenges highlight the critical need for additional support to continue our work and extend our impact.
- Lack of sustainable Funding.
Although RADP has received support from partners, including SHOFCO and a small grand from Dhamira Moja, the funding available remains limited and largely project-based. This affects the organization’s ability to sustain, expand and scale its programmes and respond effectively to the growing needs of vulnerable communities.
- Vulnerable Communities with Complex Needs.
The communities we serve face complex and intertwined challenges, including poverty, food insecurity, lack of access to education and poor healthcare. Our programs are designed to address these diverse needs, but the ongoing demand for comprehensive support exceeds our current capacity. We need additional resources to better address these multifaceted challenges and offer more holistic services.
- Capacity to scale programs.
Despite the success of our existing initiatives, RADP faces challenges in scaling its programs to reach more families and communities. The need for additional funding, human resources and strategic partnerships is critical for expanding our programs and impacting more vulnerable populations.
- Awareness and protection gaps.
Continued community awareness is needed on child protection, human trafficking, GBV, rights, and available referral and support services.
- Climate -related Challenges.
Droughts, Floods, pests and changing weather patterns affecting agricultural livelihoods.
