Climate change is no longer a distant concern. Its effects are being felt in farms, households, local economies, and everyday livelihoods. Building resilient communities therefore requires more than awareness—it requires practical knowledge, meaningful participation, and collective action.
Rural Action Development Program (RADP) recently participated in a three-day training organized by the DaCCA Programme. The training strengthened our capacity on key issues that shape sustainable development and communities’ ability to respond to climate-related challenges.
The sessions explored climate change adaptation and resilience, agroecology and sustainable agriculture, sources and channels of climate finance, budget tracking and accountability, national climate-change frameworks, and county budget-making processes.
A major highlight was the discussion on agroecology. Sustainable farming practices can help communities protect their environment, improve soil health, strengthen food security, and become better prepared for changing weather patterns. Agroecology offers an approach to agriculture that works with nature while supporting livelihoods for present and future generations.
The training also emphasized the power of citizen participation. Communities and civil-society organizations have an important role in engaging with public budget processes, following how resources are allocated and used, and advocating for development priorities that respond to real community needs. When citizens understand these processes, they are better positioned to demand accountability and contribute to better outcomes.
For RADP, this training was an opportunity to deepen our commitment to community-led development. We believe that informed and empowered communities can respond more effectively to climate change, influence the decisions that affect their lives, and build stronger, more sustainable livelihoods.
The next step is to turn learning into action. RADP is committed to sharing this knowledge with communities, supporting climate action, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and encouraging stronger civic engagement.
